As soon as the session started today, speaker asked the CM to introduce the trust vote in the house. The trust vote was introduced in the house by the CM without any delay.
There was complete chaos in the assembly. At 5:30 am speaker had dismissed 11 BJP MLAs and 5 Independent MLAs who had submitted their support withdrawal letter to the Governor.
Now these people were cleverly dismissed by the speaker using the anti-defection law of 10th schedule, which gives the speaker power to dismiss a MLA if he is found be going against his party.
Now this section has been used by parties many times before in the past, but the most innovative use was to use against the Independent MLAs. I think it is the first time ever that Independent MLAs have been dismissed in such a way.
Anti-defection law also says that if an Independent MLA is found to have been joined any political party and the speaker is convinced of this thing, then the speaker can disqualify the MLA. This was very intelligently used by the speaker. Since many of the defecting MLAs were ex-ministers in the BJP govt., the BJP have got ample amount of proofs in this context to show that they had joined the party.The matter is now in high court and will take considerable amount of time for the judgment.
As soon as the trust motion was introduced the speaker asked for the "voice vote".
Now in voice vote the member need to raise their hands and a general majority is seen by the speaker.
The speaker asked the MLAs who were in favor of trust vote, BJP MLAs raised their hands.
then speaker for MLAs who were against the motion. Now their was so much chaos in the house that none of the opposition MLA raised his hand.
The speaker declared that the CM has won the trust vote with margin of 106:0 and in 2 mins BJP came wining through the trust vote!!
None of the member asked for the vote count. Instead of shouting, if they would have used little bit of their head and even if a single member would have asked the speaker to arrange a vote count it would have been a all together different scenario now.
Opposition has cried foul in the whole episode.Governor in his report to centre has recommended President's rule in the state.
Need to see if it will be invoked in KA, but till then it has been well played BJP well played Speaker !!
